The 9th International Conference on Signal Image Technology & Internet Systems

The 9th International Conference on Signal Image Technology

Workshop on Situation Aware Computing (SACOM 2013)

International workshop co-located with:

Collocated with:
SITIS 2013, Kyoto, Japan, 2-5 December 2013

Scope of the workshop
Situation-aware computing is an emerging computation paradigm for achieving automatic awareness of environmental elements, recognizing their meaning in a particular situation. A number of situation-aware systems have been developed that can dynamically adapt to changing environments; however, the level of situation awareness of web-based services and systems is still low, as the vast majority of existing approaches do not take into account any situational information integrated or infused from various kinds of sensors including that from mobile phone or wearable computers. The SACOM workshop aims to bring together researchers with wide-ranging backgrounds to identify important research questions, to exchange ideas from different research disciplines, and, more generally, to facilitate discussion and innovation in the area of web-based situation-aware computing.

Topics of interest
Topics of interest for the workshop include (but are not limited to) situation-aware aspects of:

- E-collaboration
- Personalized e-commerce
- Adaptive and Personalized e-learning, m-learning and u-learning
- Context-specific situation based reasoning
- Mixed-reality initiatives Dialog systems
- Recommendation Systems
- Semantic services for mobile users
- General semantic approaches and their applications
- Multi-sensor fusion systems
- Real-time multi-sensor integration
- Real-time emergency response systems

Important Dates
Submission deadline: September 23, 2013
Acceptance/Reject notification: October 19, 2013
Camera-ready: October 27, 2013
Author Registration: October 27, 2013

Submission Guidelines
All submissions should be in IEEE conference style and PDF format. Papers may not exceed 8 pages. Two extra pages can be purchased. Paper submission will only be online via: Easy Chair ( )
The online system will be used to handle and process all papers and to prepare for the final proceedings. All submitted papers will be carefully evaluated based on originality, significance, technical soundness, and clarity of expression by at least two reviewers. The organizers will examine the reviews and make final paper selections. More details about the submission process can be found on the conference website.

Accepted papers will be included in the conference proceedings and published by IEEE Computer Society and referenced in IEEE explore and major indexes. The proceedings will be available at the conference. Extended version of selected accepted papers will be considered for publication in major journals.

At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the workshop. Registration must be done on the SITIS website at the time when the author sends the camera-ready copy of the accepted paper to the workshop chair. Workshop registration fee is determined by SITIS. A single registration for the workshop or the conference allows to attend both events.
